John Davies

OBITUARY AND LEGACY OF

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dr John Davies, a beloved husband to Dorothy, father and grandfather; visionary founder of Affordable Christian Housing (who merged with Victoria Park Homes 1965 to form Mission Housing in 2014).

John was promoted to glory on 22nd January 2024 at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, tremendous dedication, and profound impact from his life-long missionary work and support for his vision of providing Christian workers with affordable housing close to their ministry.

John and Dorothy had spent some years working as missionaries in Nepal before returning to England.  Surprised that his salary as a GP was not sufficient to buy a home in London, he and Dorothy settled in Frinton-on-Sea. They felt called to support the need of Christian workers struggling to find suitable and affordable housing in London, so in 1985 what was to become Affordable Christian Housing was started by them with support from friends locally. It was their delight to see their efforts flourish and grow to become what Mission Housing is today.

John led by example, he was known for his humility, empathy, wisdom and smile. He embodyed the principles of compassion and kindness fuelled by his faith and passion for making a positive difference.  His spirit of generosity and selflessness were an encouragement to others to do the same and will continue to inspire generations to come.

His legacy is in the fabric of Mission Housing today – a thriving organisation of faith, compassion and service inspired by those who have been faithful. Our prayers go to Dorothy, their children and grandchildren at this sad time knowing that John will be with his Lord having been a good and faithful servant.

“John was known for his humility, empathy, wisdom and smile.”
