80 percent of the population lives on the Alton Estate, one of the largest in London. Roehampton is the most deprived Parish in Wandsworth.

One way of summing up the challenges facing Roehampton is that it is a place that is not yet a place. It is isolated and has a deficit of social capital. There is no significant local retail, employment, or entertainment, and there is no state secondary school.

Holy Trinity is committed to being a church for the Parish. It works closely with the other churches in the area.

Developing the church’s work with children and young people – within the gathered church and throughout the community – is a top priority.

Holy Trinity has raised funds to employ a youth worker for three years. However, when it comes to recruiting a youth worker, housing costs in the area are prohibitively high. It is also essential, for a whole host of reasons, for the youth worker to live within the community.

The most cost-effective solution is for Holy Trinity to provide the youth worker with accommodation. To enable them to do this, they are teaming up with Mission Housing.

Holy Trinity Roehampton are committed to serving God in the Alton Estate and need to find a permanent home for their youth worker. They love living among the people they serve and want a home that can be a base for ministry and hospitality. A home suitable for their requirements will cost in the region of £275,000 – which is more than they can afford. That’s why they are working in partnership with Mission Housing – a Christian charity that enables key Christian workers to afford accommodation.

Holy Trinity is the Anglican Parish Church – the congregation is small and on paper it might well be slated for closure or amalgamation. However, because of its strategic location and the isolated nature of Roehampton, the Diocese remains committed to resourcing ministry here.

Thank you for all your support! Holy Trinity Roehampton now has enough to permanently move a youth worker into the community they love to live and work.
